In December 2016 we received the most devastating news our darling mum Shirley was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer.
After numerous appointments and realizing how aggressive SCLC is mum immediately commenced Chemotherapy with the hope of Radiation to follow, but unfortunately due to complications Radiation was no longer an option.
Mum being the true fighter she is stayed positive throughout her treatment and responded well to her Chemotherapy, by her 5th round in March 2017 hers scans showed no evidence of disease and was no longer needing a sixth round.
Unfortunately on her 2 monthly check-up our world was crushed once again the cancer was back. Within a week mum was back on Chemo but her scans after 2 rounds were showing a mixed bag, some of the cancer was responding and shrinking in size but her the cancer in her Chest Nodular was doubling in size.
Her Oncologist cancelled her treatment that day and now our only hope is to try a Self-funded Immunotherapy treatment which unfortunately has just been PBS approved for Non Small Cell Lung Cancer but not for Small Cell Lung Cancer.
As you can imagine the devastation of learning our mum was not covered by the PBS as this treatment comes at a massive cost of $5,200.00 per month. My Dad at 71 retired in January so he could care for our mum and as pensioners $5,200.00 is a massive stress to deal with on top of the stress of the cancer.
As her children we feel so broken and hopeless knowing medically there is nothing we can do but try our best to help with the financial costs of this treatment.
Any donation big or small would be greatly appreciated to help our beautiful Mum, Wife, grandma and great grandma receive this treatment so mum can focus on winning this battle.
