Ship SolCook Building Materials to South Africa!

Thank you for visiting our GoFundMe page! This fundraiser will cover shipping costs to send our surplus solar cooking building materials to South Africa. Our contact in South Africa has begun to build solar cookers from our plans. However, they are unable to obtain the high-quality reflective film that we use in the United States. SolCook has a surplus of this commercial-grade reflective material and will be donating it to our South African friends. Their intention is to complete these cookers using our materials and distribute finished cookers to those in need.

In Sub-Sahara Africa, there are millions of people who do not have access to cooking fuel or clean water. Women walk miles each day collecting firewood and dung for their cooking fires. The cooking fires are typically indoors, where the smoke from these fires can lead to lung diseases in young children and whoever else inhales the smoke. The inability to pasteurize water for safe drinking can lead to chronic intestinal diseases which can also lead to a very high mortality rate of young children in the area. Solar cooking provides all the heat needed for cooking food as well as the ability to make water safe for drinking. It also drastically reduces greenhouse gas emissions from cooking fires.

SolCook has contributed cookers to this region for over 20 years, however, the shipment cost of this large amount of materials is beyond our means. Please help us get the materials to those in need. Thank you for your donation!
