When our mother was told she had a year to live unless she received a liver transplant due to a rare genetic disorder called biliary cholangitis, none of us wanted to believe it. After several stays in intensive care units, we were forced to reckon with the reality at hand.
Our mother is one of the strongest, courageous people you'll ever meet. She has spent her life taking care of others, and now we are working hard to repay her for her efforts.
By no less than a miracle, Sheryll Tovar received a transplant from a generous donor. We have no words to describe the gratitude and humility we feel. We thought that the greatest hurdle was over. But, in many ways, the journey has just begun. Medications and care costs after transplant seem insurmountable. We are at a loss, and we don't know what to do.
With humility and open hearts, we ask that you consider donating a small amount to help us fund the exorbitant prescription medications needed to keep our mom alive. She is trying so hard to stay positive. The thoughts and prayers of friends, family and strangers keep her inspired.
