Sherry's Stroke Recovery Fund

As many people know, my mother Sherry recently had an ischemic stroke. When the stroke occurred, she had a fall due to the loss of motor control. In between falling and trying to get to the phone to call for help, she hit her head multiple times quite violently. Fortunately, she had an iPhone and was able to tell Siri to call her neighbor Tim (THANK GOD). Long story short, we were able to get my mom to the hospital and after a pretty tough battle for the first couple of days in the neuro-intensive care unit she was able to pull through.
As a result of the stroke, my mother lost all control of the left side of her body from head to toe. Including face muscles, handwriting, and the ability to walk. Slowly over the next few weeks in the hospital she was able to, inch by inch, begin to move her extremities again. With the help of a walker and the very kind and generous medical staff at Medical City of Plano she was able to get to the point where she could even walk on her own, although she still has to put forth a great deal of effort to do so. The doctors say that she is very blessed to have progressed as much as she has so quickly, which is very positive news for people who have suffered any kind trauma to the brain.
Upon being discharged from the hospital, she moved in with Casey and I and will be staying in our home for the first few months of her recovery. We are hoping and praying that she will one day have a full recovery as she does physical rehabilitation daily (covered by insurance). However, she is still unable to write clearly, lift things, or walk completely safely without aid. In short, she is not yet in any condition where she can drive or go back to work soon.
My mom is single and lived alone before all of this happened, and really has no one to help her financially through this incredibly difficult and emotional recovery except for my husband and I. Her work cohorts and friends have been there for us by providing us with meals and emotional support. We are truly grateful for this. However, while she is unable to work, the world around continues. Affairs need to be managed, and bills still need to be paid. Unfortunately she does not have disability insurance to help her until she can go back to work.
After much discussion between my husband and I, we decided to start this GoFundMe for her. For all of her life my mother has been a selfless and giving individual to those in need, even if it meant she had to go without. Living on a tight income has never stopped her from helping others. The saying goes, "what comes around goes around". We are praying that others who have known her kindness might be able to lend a helping hand in her time of need and prove this saying to be true.
It uplifts my heart to see that my mom is recovering a little bit more every day, and I want to do anything I can to ease her financial burden so she can focus solely on her recovery.
Anything that anyone is able donate to this fund would go a long way towards helping my mother during her recovery. All donations will go to keeping her financial burdens at bay until she is able to return to work.
