The State of Vermont has lost yet another young Fire Fighter much too soon. Firefighter Shelby Jay Coon, 22 years old, died tragically in a motor vehicle accident on March 4, 2018. He was a member of the Shaftsbury Fire Department and a 2017 Vermont Tech Fire Science graduate.

We are deeply saddened and are raising funds to pay for his funeral expenses and his firefighter school student loans.

Shelby took great pride in being a Fire Fighter and an EMT, below are some words that inspired Shelby to be a Fire Fighter.

A Fireman's Prayer...
When I am called to duty, God
Wherever Flames may rage,
Give me strength to save some life
Whatever Be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late,
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert and
Hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling
And give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor
And protect their property.
And if according to your will
I should lose my life,
Please bless with your protecting hand
My children and my wife.
