Sheila Miller Rather's Medical Fund

Hi, My name is Pam Hymel.  Myself and my siblings, Lynn & David Miller are coming to you on behalf of our little sister, Sheila Miller Rather.  As many of you know, Sheila has had many complications after having a gastric bypass in 2007. She has had approx. 8 emergency surgeries to save her life with the last one being July 22, 2017. During the initial surgery, her stomach was altered to a smaller size than it should have been,  her intestines no longer work properly and in 2014 her colon was removed.  She has had many medical complication since this time andhas seen many doctors in Lake Charles, Houston & Georgia.  Unfortunately, she still has not been helped enough for her to have any quality of life.  Sheila was once again referred by a local doctor to see a specialist  at Ochsneirs in NOLA in hopes of being helped once again. She will travel to NOLA on Thursday, 11/9/17 and see the doctor on Friday and start a series of testing to determine if any treatment could help her.

Since Sheila's husband Gerald got laid off in February of this year, they have not had hospitalization insurance. They did have insurance with his new company, but it only covered in office doctor visits & medication.  Sheila has spent 7 weeks in the hospital since the end of June and 1 week of that was in ICU.  Gerald was once again laid off at the end of October so now has no income or insurance at all.  Due to Sheila's condition and having to be with her in NOLA & possibly some after they return home, he will be unable to work until an unknown date.

  We would appreciate any donation you would care to give to help our sister and her family during this time of need.  These funds will be used to help sustain the household expenses during the absence of income , expenses incurred for travel to NOLA, medical necessities once she returns home, possible sitters and any other medical necessity.  Thank You kindly.
