She Ran To Save a Dog… Now She Needs Us

Julia never hesitated.

Just days after welcoming a new foster dog into her home, Julia took him out late one cold night for a final potty break. Something startled him. He panicked and ran—straight toward busy Graham Street in Charlotte.

Anyone who loves animals knows that moment. Your heart drops. Your mind goes blank. Instinct takes over.

Julia flagged down a passing car, and kind strangers helped get one dog safely inside. But Tank was still out there. In the dark. Near traffic. In danger.

When Julia saw him, she ran.

She didn’t think about herself. She didn’t think about the cars. She thought about the dog she had promised to protect.

That’s when she was hit by an SUV going 40–45 miles per hour.

Julia doesn’t remember the impact. What she’s left with is unimaginable: a broken pelvis, broken ribs, broken fingers, damaged teeth and mouth, vertebrae injuries, a concussion, and a brain bleed. The pain is constant and overwhelming. Recovery will take months of intense rehabilitation.

Doctors say she will be out of work for at least 8–12 weeks. The medical bills are already piling up. Everyday living expenses don’t stop. And right now, Julia’s only job is surviving and healing.

She is incredibly lucky to be alive. She is incredibly lucky not to be paralyzed.

Julia is a volunteer. An animal lover. The kind of person who runs toward danger so a dog doesn’t lose its life.

Many of us would have done the same thing in that moment—fear, adrenaline, love driving us forward. Julia paid the price for that love.

Now it’s our turn to show up for her.

Please consider donating if you can. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this means just as much. Help us ease the financial burden so Julia can focus on healing instead of worrying about how she’ll make it through the next few months.

She risked her life to save a dog.
Let’s come together to help save hers.
