Sharon & Terry Moth-Duncan's fire fundraiser

Terry (Tiger) and Sharon Moth-Duncan were just married in August, 2019.  Now, less than six weeks later, their wedding photos are ash, along with their clothes, documents and pretty much everything else.

They were renting a historic house at Wyan (next to the Tarmac Sawmill), when it burned to the ground in the catastrophic Rappville fires on 8 October, 2019.  (Wyan is in the area between Busbys Flat, where the fire started, and Rappville, in the Casino area of NSW, Australia).

On the day of the bush fire, Sharon was at home with one of kids, and Tiger and his other son had just come home from working at the mill next door, at about 2pm. There was more smoke in the air than usual that day (a fire had been burning at Busbys Flat, about 10km away, for days).  That afternoon the temperature had reached 40 degrees and the wind was blowing a gale.

Fire fighters suddenly arrived, and told Sharon, Tiger and their two kids to pack their things. Then they said it was too late to leave and to get inside. The firies defended the house, while the flames came under the door, and saved their lives.

When the fire seemed to have moved on, the firies sped off to defend Rappville.  However, embers had lodged in the roof, and the Sharon, Tiger and the kids had to flee outside while the house burned and the gas bottles exploded.  With the power out (over a hundred power poles were destroyed in the fire), they couldn't use their electric water pump to defend the house.

The mill next door, where Tiger worked, was also destroyed in the fire.   After a couple of days in emergency accommodation, Tiger and Sharon are now back on the property in a tent, trying to pick up their lives. The Busbys Flat fire is still burning (under control again) and has burnt 49997 hectares so far (Fires Near Me NSW app, 20/10/19).

Please donate what you can to help Tiger and Sharon.  If you can't donate please share.

Thankyou kindly.

...we have set up this fundraiser on behalf of Sharon and Tiger as we are the property owners. We had property insurance, but they had no insurance for their belongings (and of course some things are irreplaceable). No one would ever have thought this house, or the mill next door, would be destroyed by a bush fire, as the country was cleared all around. There was next to no grass either, as a result of the drought. Sharon says it was as if the dirt was on fire. The 40 degree temperatures and gale force winds that day caused a fire that was under control by the RFS to turn into an inferno, unprecedented in October. - Jessica Lowe & Nathan Kesteven
