WHAT IS SHAREDWORKSHOP?
SharedWorkshop is a woman-owned, award-winning startup. Our mission is to promote the revival of America's manufacturing heritage and find a solution for the over 1 billion sq ft of unused manufacturing space in the US via a peer-to-peer marketplace platform that matches owners of partially or entirely empty industrial facilities with individuals or companies who will productively use the space. Think AirBnB for the manufacturing sector.
WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS IDEA?
Growing up in a blue-collar town in Michigan, I recall how aspirational and proud the middle class was during the 1980s. Families boasted how this part of the industrial heartland was the backbone of America. However, as manufacturing jobs left our state, a palpable wave of despair took hold. Small, family-owned, legacy businesses were hit especially hard. To survive, some factory owner's--like my father--started to share part of their unused factory floor space. Finding the right lessee was time consuming and hard and I thought there has to be a better way. So, 6 months ago my team and I developed SharedWorkshop.
WHY DO YOU NEED THE MONEY?
Last week our company beat out thousands of applicants and was selected to present at the Startup Grind Global Conference in Silicon Valley. This is a huge deal for a small, bootstrapped company like ours. To make this trip happen--and hopefully others like it--we are desperately seeking your help.
HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE USED?
Our team of 3 will use the Funds for:
3 Airplane Tickets to SF: $1,200
2 Hotel Rooms for 6 nights: $2,800
Startup Grind Tickets (mandatory purchase): $2,350
Local Transportation: $150
Expo Material: $350
WHAT IF YOU RAISE MORE MONEY?
First we are beyond grateful for any money that we raise. However, in the event that we raise more money than we need for our trip to StartUp Grind Global Conference, the unused funds will be applied toward SharedWorkshop attending and pitching at other events in 2018. Currently we are applying to take part in pitch events at ATECH, Project Entrepreneur, SXSW, Extreme Tech Challenge, and others.
WE LIKE THE IDEA, BUT CANNOT GIVE.
