Shannon Marvin Maisano Cancer Fund

Shannon Marvin Maisano is a 46-year-old mother of four who was first diagnosed in 2011 with stage 3 A, Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma which is an invasive form of breast cancer.  After undergoing chemo and radiation, in July of 2012 scans came back clear and she was cancer free. In February of 2017 it was discovered that the cancer had returned in the brain, left shoulder, pelvis, sternum, spine, liver,  lymp nodes in the auxiliary chain, lymp nodes under the arm and in the groin area. Shannon is currently receiving  medical treatment at M.D. Anderson and Ochsner Hospital. She has the support of her husband Billy and her children Lauren, Nicole, Kaye, and Will. Along with her extended family, friends, the congregations of St. Mathew's Catholic Church in River Ridge, First Baptist Church of Kenner, First Baptist Church of Covington and the support of Franco’s Athletic Club where she had worked. Shannon had to step away from Franco’s in Novemberof  2017.  With God’s providence’, prayers, love and support, she is trusting God and thankful to walk this journey day by day.

Through this Go Fund Me page, we hope to help the family pay some small portion of the continually-mounting medical bills. We thank for your continual prayers and any financial support you can provide.

5/17/18 - Hello friends. We are heading home from MD Anderson and here is the latest. Looks as if I will be starting Xeloda. Xeloda, is a chemo pill that I can take at home. The wonderful thing is that this chemo crosses the blood brain barrier, which will treat the body and brain. This visit showed more growth in the liver and they are keeping an eye on an area in the brain stem. They want to make sure the cancer is not metastasizing to the meninges of the brain. I will go back in 6 weeks for another MRI of the brain and a spinal tap to make sure my fluids are clear. I had a spinal tap last April and I am praying it's clear again.

In my earlier post I shared how I want to be bold for God’s kingdom. It is my hearts desire. I love how God opened my hands in the Bible to this verse about being “bold". He lets me know through His Word that He heard my prayer.

“In the day when I cried out, You answered me,
And made me bold with strength in my soul. “ Psalm 138:3 NKJV

2/8/18 - Hello friends. Here is what we have so far. The MRI of the brain showed 2 tiny spots on top and 5 tiny spots in the cerebellum. Dr Sulman is not sure if these tiny areas are new growths or may be dead tissue. Sometimes the areas they treat can look like new growths, but it is actually dead tissue. They will have a radiologist review the 7 areas tomorrow and will call me Monday with the results. A follow up will be needed in 6 weeks for another MRI of the brain. Also if those areas are new growths they would zap them with the gamma knife again.

Ok! Now for the PET scan of the body. As we know I have not been on Ibrance (pill chemo) since Nov because my WBC was too low. So I have been just taking Letrozole (estrogen blocker). The scan did show that there was some growth in the liver, some growth in the lymph nodes in left arm pit, and some growth in the right mammary chain. She suggested that I go on Xeloda which would treat the body. Xeloda would also treat the brain. The Ibrance only treated the body, it did not pass through the blood brain barrier. Right before I went in to see Dr Koenig to review the PET scan I ran into a precious lady who was telling me about the chemo she was on- Xeloda. The chemo that Dr Koenig would tell me about in the visit. The main side effects of Xeloda are hand and feet sensitivity and diarrhea. God is so faithful in His guidance. Praises to God in ALL circumstances. Amen
