Shannon is the founder of Catahoula Rescue of New England, located in Warren, Maine.
She has rescued and helped many dogs find their forever home and their loving family.
Shannon was diagnosed with cancer of both the left and right meninges (linings) of the brain.
She has been in Boston, Massachusetts since July 23rd, receiving daily treatment.
She is an independent person and often helps others but is uncomfortable asking for help for herself.  She and her pet, Miss Pickles, are staying off campus and Shannon daily drives herself to the hospital ($40 gas; $30 tolls) in her Jeep.
She has only missed several treatments because of nausea or headaches.
The American Cancer Society told her they would help her with transportation on days she could not drive herself; however, when she reached out to them, she was told they never promised her any type of help.
Presently, Shannon is experiencing vision problems and she has no feeling on the  left side of her face and that side is swollen.  To make matters worse,  her Jeep is having brake issues so she may need financial aid for repairs.
Here is the latest update from Shannon.
"I haven't done an update in a while and I apologize I started off treatment positively and in the last week or so things have definitely taken a turn. I'm not one to complain about process and as many of you know I've been pretty adamant about doing everything alone well somewhat alone pickles has been here with me. So everything is taking a toll on me physically emotionally and financially. physically I'm feeling the effects. I can't sleep and I'm exhausted I've been given sleeping pills and they are very slow to work even and I am beyond exhausted. I have no feeling on the left side of my face and it is pretty swollen. I have some issues with my eyes where it's kind of hard to focus and my concentration is not a hundred percent. It really feels like somebody beat the crap out of my face. Emotionally I'm pretty zonked and I'm done with treatment I really don't want to go any further I'm going to try and keep going but emotionally it's pretty hard because I don't want to. My heart is not in it at this point. financially as you know I was set up to fail by the Cancer Society everything that you told me was not true. And I have been driving myself and that is starting to take the toll. My Jeep is having some issues with its brakes which I'm going to have looked at this week so fingers crossed that that's not going to break the bank. I did apply for a grant through Cancer Care and was very excited cuz I was awarded however the check came this week and to my disappointment it was only for $100. Why it was only that amount I can't fathom why. I am happy that I was sent something but for me to put gas in my vehicle is $40 is a week minimum parking cost me $30 a week. And my treatment is for 33 days this doesn't include tolls and the fact that some days actually weeks it cost me more than $40 in gas. so I'm sorry if this seems like all I'm doing is complaining I'm just upset with the whole Cancer Society concept and how they're here to help when they have no interest in helping and it just adds to the stress of how it feel. So that's my update in short I still have at least two weeks a treatment hopefully that's all I have when I met with my oncologist today we kind of made a plan that I would at least have that much and no more. I have missed a few treatments and hopefully I won't have to make those up. I will say she is fabulous her heart is really invested in my care and how I feel and she understands that there are other issues to what's going on with me with my thorasic outlet and that that issue is aggravated by the radiation and is making complications for me and she's listening to me and taking my information into consideration for care and that means a lot that she is actually listening some doctors don't do that. As always I appreciate all of you out there your thoughts and your prayers I know you're out there thinking of me and it means the world to me I'm sorry to seem like I'm complaining and being a sorry person I've been trying to be as positive as I can but I'm having a little bit of a hard time right now. So please forgive me."
