Shane Lang Fight Fund

On February 23, 2021 my sweet eight-year-old nephew Shane got on the school bus with his three siblings to head off for another day of third grade. By that night he was in an oncology ward at Stonybrook Hospital and had been diagnosed with T Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

After a bout of what was thought to be Bells Palsy in mid-January, my sister Jenn and brother-in-law George persistently brought Shane to first the ER and then a neurologist trying to find an answer to what caused the facial paralysis on one side of his face.  After the Bells Palsy spread to both sides of his face, Jenn and George brought Shane to a new neurologist who immediately wanted to find out what type of infection caused it. As he tested negative for each illness they looked into, his repeated complete blood count tests revealed an ever-increasing white blood cell count. This combined with his sudden lack of energy and decreased appetite was cause for concern.  The neurologist told Jenn and George to pull Shane from school that Tuesday, and head straight to the ER for further testing. A chest x-ray revealed a large mass in his chest cavity and suddenly my sister  and brother-in-law found themselves in a room with a team of five doctors handing them the worst news of their lives. Shane was admitted to the hospital and given a bone marrow biopsy and spinal tap, both of which revealed the presence of leukemia cells.

Shane is facing an initial ten day hospital stay where he has been given a chest port and started on chemotherapy. He will undergo intense chemotherapy for the next eight months and all in nearly three years of treatments. His prognosis is good and his doctors are optimistic but the road ahead will be a long one.

In addition to many unexpected expenses and uncertainty about their ability to work, Jenn and George also need to focus on their other three children, nearly eleven-year-old twins George and Hunter and six-year-old Sophie.

Please consider donating to help the Lang Family have some financial relief as they navigate this nightmare as a family. Thank you!
