Can you imagine losing your home, your relationship, your job and your car ALL IN ONE DAY? Well, that happened to me on June 18, 2012. I lost everything in one day. Most of what I experienced was the result of me choosing to end a 6 year relationship that had become toxic. I could not grow and truly be the woman of purpose God created me to be while in that relationship. I've realized that in relationships, people grow apart. It doesn't make one person good or right or the other wrong or bad. It's just how it goes sometimes.
On June 18, 2012, I didn't know how I would make it after losing my job, home, and car. I only left with my clothes. I was afraid. I was scared. I was totally caught off guard. Life as I knew it would be changed forever.
PICKING UP THE PIECES
Over the past year and a half, I've lived with family members who opened their hearts and home to me. During this time, I began picking up the broken pieces of my life as I worked on myself. I was determined to become BETTER and not bitter from my experience. Along the way, I found my true passion inspiring teen girls to love themselves, recognize their inner beauty, know their worth and take advantage of their education. I LOVE this work. PURPOSE IN THE PAIN
The best part about working with teen girls is that I was able to give so much of myself and make a positive impact during some of the darkest times of my life. I realized that in the midst of my trials, my life is not all about me. I am here to serve others, too. This past year and a half has not been easy. I had to learn how to survive. I had to face some ugly truths about myself and work on these areas to become a better person. On top of my personal struggles, I have dealt with health issues. In December of 2013, I almost went blind in my left eye due to glaucoma. By God's grace, I was able to get surgery which saved my vision. I feel empowered by this experience. It makes me want to live life to the FULLEST!
STILL STANDING
Through all of these things, God was with me. He saw me through and I'm a better person because of my struggles. I have learned so many lessons along this journey that I will share with others. I LOVE the woman I see looking back at me in the mirror. She is a survivor. She is strong. She is brave. She is compassionate. She is beautiful. She is happy. She is a woman that her son can be proud of. She is still standing! She is me!!!
STARTING OVER...FROM SCRATCH
I launched this campaign because after a year and a half, I finally have a place to call home for my son and me! I am totally starting from scratch. I must purchase everything for my apartment. I also plan to use a portion of the money to launch my non-profit to empower teen girls. I could use a jump start.
I'm excited about writing this new chapter in my life.
WHAT EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW
PLEASE share my story. More women need to know that they don't have to stay in toxic relationships. They can start over again even when life seems to knock them down. They can ALWAYS GET BACK UP like I did. They only need to find the courage to believe in themselves and they, too, can create a life they love.THEY ARE WORTH IT.
