Shakell’s Coronavirus Recovery Fund

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Booker Brown and I am Shakell Avery’s uncle. On April 6th, my nephew Shakell walked into Menoriah Medical Center’s emergency room.  He spent the next 80+ days fighting for his life from the Corornavirus. Within a matter of hours he was put on a ventilator on max support. He had to receive dialysis due to his kidneys shutting down, along with cardio version (having his heart shocked) due to afib and heart rates over 250 bpm, amongst many other ailments. Due to prolonged need for the ventilator he received a tracheotomy in his neck and was in a medically induced coma for the majority of the weeks he was fighting.

He continues to fight and has a long road to recovery ahead of him. He continues to receive physical therapy, occupational therapy, wound care team and among others at his home everyday to rehabilitate. He is having to learn things we take for granted like walking, dressing, brush his teeth and how to care for himself all over again. Shakell is a great person with great morals. His top priorities has always been his 1year old son, fiancée and family. Shakell is a Barber and the main financial provider in his household. The Coronavirus and his recovery has caused financial hardship for his family. Even though he is eager to do so, he won’t be able to return to work as a Barber until he is fully recovered. Any donations given will be used to aid his family with rent, food, co-pays for upcoming doctors appointments, prescriptions and other bills to sustain them so he can focus on healing. If there is any extra when Shakell is able to get back to work, it will be donated to other Coronavirus relief charities.

Thank you to everyone who has been there for my nephew and our family. The past three months was the hardest thing our family has ever had to endure. We did endure because of the many Doctors, nurses, hospital staff, acute care hospital, rehabilitation staff, family members, friends and complete strangers that took the time to care for us in one way or another. From tending to Shakell  by his bed side to all the prayers. We are so incredibly grateful. We know there are stories like ours going on all over the world. Loved ones fighting for their life. Let’s continue to pray for the healing of all those that are affected by this horrendous virus.
