Seth, Mark, & Cassi's Disaster Fund

Story
On September 11th in Gainesville, Florida, Cassi, Mark, and Seth woke to a foot of water in our rental home at 5:30AM. Hurricane Irma was upon us and we were feeling its full force. In Gainesville, Florida, the winds were not nearly as bad as other areas, but our house was unknowningly in a terrible flood zone. Our power was still on, which may seem like a blessing, but was an enormous hazard when your house is rapidly filling with water. Unfortunately, the breaker was on the outside of the house and the water was up to our window sills, which are approximately 4 feet high. Seth had to crawl through a window to shut off the breaker. It was dark, cold, windy, and terrifying. Cassi and Mark were doing their best to save the essentials. We gathered our two dogs and two cats, and any remaining salvageable electronics. In the end, we were not able to save much as the water rose to over 36 inches in the house and a vast majority of our belongings have been ruined. In sum, we lost $15000-20000 worth of items.
Who We Are
Mark is an undergraduate student at the University of Florida who is completing a dual major in Statistics and Mathematics. He is a first generation college student and has worked to support himself through most of college.
Cassi is currently applying to the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida and completed her degree in Animal Sciences last spring. She works as a veterinary technician at a local animal hospital.
Seth is a first year veterinary student at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida. He is a self-supporting student and worked full time throughout his undergraduate career at the University of Florida to be able to afford his education.
We are roommates that that have lived together for the last few months.
Potential Donators
We are not asking for money to replace our luxury items, but to help us rebuild our lives with essential items and belongings that make us feel whole. Please only donate if you truly have the excess income and feel a connection to what we have been through. We thank you and appreciate any donation more than we can put into words. We will use the money to replace many of the essentials that we have lost, such as clothes, shoes, dog/cat essentials, toiletries, and laptops for school.
