About Me
I have been singing since before I could talk. Even before that, there has always been Christmas music playing in my house. Singing Christmas carols with my family, especially harmonzing with my mom, were some of my formative musical experiences. They taught me the joy of singing and to always be a kid at heart. Maybe that's why I ended up teaching elementary music.
In addition to teaching, I also sing whenever I can. I cantor regularly at St. Joan of Arc and have shared the stage with performers such as Robert Robinson, Anne Reed, Dan Chouinard, T. Mychael Rambo and others. I have sung in a variety of musicals, operas, choirs, acapella groups, and the shower.
I also write music. My songs are characterized by their sweetness, originality, and (sometimes) bad jokes. I also enjoy arranging music, and the chance to take some of the most beloved songs in history and add my own ideas to them is one of my primary motivations for this project.
About the Album
I want this album to be made up of songs that bring people together. I want the music to be familiar and joyful, with just a little touch of something new to make you smile. Here is how I plan to get there.
Overview
This album will be a collection of 5-10 Christmas classics with possibly one or two original songs thrown in. All the music will be performed by live, professional musicians (with the possible exception of a drummer, as there would be extra cost and logistics involved).
Songs will be selected with a great deal of input and support by contributors to the project (i.e., you!) Each song will be carefully arranged to capture its true meaning, but in a way that is not exactly what you've heard before.
Musical Excerpts/Ideas
"Angels We Have Heard on High (Gloria)" This arrangement will feature bluegrass instrumentation and me channeling my Nashville roots in a no holds barred hoedown celebration! Sorry. No excerpt yet. If you want to hear this, please contribute!
"Oh Holy Night" Hear the acapella introduction to my version. This verse is sung in the original French.
"Bound By Heart" is an original song written by me after a very hard Christmas a few years ago. Enjoy listening to the chorus!
Contributor participation
Contributors at the $20 level or higher will have input into this album, ranging from a vote on which songs to include all the way up to selecting a favorite track of your own.
The Plan
Budget
In order to be viable, I need to be able to create at least 5 songs. The costs for the basic version of the project are $3,396. See a complete breakdown here.
I would love to do more than 5 songs, though. The ideal 10 song project would cost $6,225.
Timeline
Realistically, I am aiming for an album release date of December 2019 (sometime before Christmas). However, I dream of raising money and completing the album by next Christmas. Meeting the funding goal is a very important factor in the timetable. Assuming I meet the funding goal very quickly, I could begin planning the album now and begin recording as soon as April. I would have recording done by the end of summer (or Early fall), have the tracks mixed and mastered by December and release the album at a concert (date, time and location TBD).
However, I am a teacher. And a church musician. And a husband. And a dad. It may take two years.
Your help
Without your financial support, this album cannot happen. Although it is possible that I could make some money on future proceeds of the album, it is highly unlikely that this project will ever be particularly profitable.
My motivation for this project is to bring a smile to the face of all who listen. If you place a little trust in me, I can make that hpappen. Those of you who know me well know that when I decide to do something, I do it well or not at all.
