Service Dog for Brett Poskin

On a cold morning in December 2017, Brett decided to sneak out a door while no one was looking. Which direction Brett went first, no one knows. Several people started to search for him, while Brett was wondering somewhere outside with no coat or shoes on. Luckily, 20 minutes later, Brett beat the odds and was found safe outside about a quarter of a mile from where he exited the door with only a few scratches. Where Brett went, why he did it, and how he ended up where he was will remain a mystery forever.
Brett is a lovable, very energetic 8 year old boy who has autism, is non verbal, has hemiplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and some hearing loss. Unfortunately Brett also loves to run... anywhere, anytime, at any given point when the opportunity presents itself. Elopement has always been a lurking danger that we have to live with every second, every minute, every day, year round.
Getting Brett a service dog will help prevent this situation from ever happening again. The service dog will be trained to anchor or be attached to Brett at certain points of the day, will be trained to alert people if Brett is attempting to elope or do something dangerous, and will be able to track Brett's scent. The service dog will also be trained to detect seizures and will give additional assistance to Brett by keeping him calm and providing socializaiton, friendship, and safety.
Brett will be getting a dog from Northern Indiana Service dogs. The dog being trained specifically for Brett's needs name is Ike. Brett got to meet his dog Ike, and they were a perfect match. Brett will get to visit and train with Ike for the next serval monthes until December or early January, when Ike should be fully trained to come live at home with Brett. The cost of the service dog is $8000.00.
