Service Dog for Kaylee

Donation protected
My name is Amber and I’m the proud mother of three-year-old Kaylee. Kaylee has Cerebral Palsy which means it's hard for her to walk. She also has a lot of amazing positive energy that is hard for her to express from the confounds of her walker and wheelchair. The good news, a service dog can help her experience the world in a way a kid should, with freedom and a friend. The best news, thanks to this GoFundMe campaign, our family was able to adopt Riley, a sweet German Shepard puppy who will be able to help Kaylee experience the world in a brand new way. But we still need your help.

We’ve had Riley since September 2017. Not only has Kaylee’s confidence boosted since then, but she is also more determined to learn to walk and keep up with Riley. So far, Riley has completed basic training, knows about 30 commands, and has learned manners like no barking, jumping, or growling. She also just mastered retrieving items for me that I drop! That said, there is still so much more for Riley to learn to make sure she can help Kaylee excel.

Our next big step will be making sure Riley is ready for her Public Access test so that she can officially be by Kaylee’s side. She will need to be able to master things such as focusing in highly distracting areas, sitting for hours at a time, and holding open doors for Kaylee. Riley will need to take classes and be enrolled in private training sessions before it’s time to take the test. Classes will teach Riley how to behave but a huge portion of the private training sessions will be to teach Kaylee how to be her handler and to teach Riley to treat Kaylee as one. They’ll be by each other's side constantly so classes and training are crucial.

The best part about having Riley is the glimpse of a future where Kaylee can keep up with her peers and walk in grass, water, mud and such without assistance from a machine or her parent’s hand. Having Riley by her side will make it much easier for her to explore and enjoy her days like all children should! If all goes according to plan, Riley will be fully trained in time for Kaylee to start kindergarten.

This is where you come in! Classes and training sessions don’t come cheap and we have a lot of work to do before Riley is ready to join Kaylee in a Kindergarten classroom.

- Each private training session costs $40
- Each class costs $150
- Riley’s Public Access Test costs $100
- Riley’s new bracing harness and training equipment costs $450

It gives our family great peace of mind knowing that Kaylee will have Riley to lean on both as a brace and a companion. We appreciate your support in helping our dynamic duo continue to learn and grow together!
