It is with a heavy heart that we humbly accept your generosity toward's Sergio Canizales' memorial fund.
Sergio suddenly fell ill a few months ago, and after a very long, hard fought battle with a very rare disease, his heart gave way and he left us December 28, 2017.
There currently is no cure for Ideopathic Multicentric Castleman Disease (IMCD), a rare condition that affects the lymph nodes and related tissues. His doctors and nurses at Kaiser Oakland worked couragously and around the clock to care for him for 51 days.
At only 16, Sergio left a lasting impression on everyone he met. In a few words, he was honest, loyal, inquisitive, kind and determined. He was special and will be missed by many.
Funds raised will go towards Castleman's Disease Research, a Memorial Scholarship to a class of 2019 graduate from Leadership Public Schools Hayward, and to off-set funeral costs.
