Sensory Room Supplies for St B’s!

Hi my name is Siobhan and I am mother to Minnie shown above. Minnie is suspected to be autistic, although we await a diagnosis. Her brother Henry is diagnosed with ASD and Dyspraxia after waiting over two years.

Minnie is non-verbal and cannot use a toilet despite many attempts, tricks and interventions. She also struggles with social and emotional regulation.

The school the children attend is mainstream and whilst they are very good and supportive, it is an additional challenge to not only have the funds and the resources but also to generally provide education to children with SEN in the way that might be ideal. The school finally agreed and have built a sensory space over the Christmas break - but it now needs appropriately stocking and decking out! There is a significant increase now in children generally being diagnosed with SEN conditions and therefore this space will benefit many children, not only mine. However, I am also very aware of two things: schools have budgets and sensory equipment is expensive. I was hoping to be able to offer the school some support with finding the money for items to fill it appropriately. It has been my decision to set this up in the hope of surprising them with the cash boost. A receipt will be provided as proof that this has indeed been done. I will also be putting some of my own funds towards this towards the end of the fundraiser to boost what has been raised and this will also be transparent for people to see. I’ll note as well that grants can be applied for but, 1- that takes time and 2- there is competition for those funds. This sort of equipment is also significantly expensive and runs into the hundreds for even the basics.
