Send Karina to South Africa

Hello, my name is Karina Lee. I am a currently in my third year at Carthage College pursuing my undergrad in Elementary Education with a minor in Urban Education. One day I hope to utilize my degree educating underrepresented groups of children in grades K-8. This January, a group of Carthage students will be accompanied by Assistant Professor of Management and Marketing Jennifer Madden and Director of Equality and Inclusion Professor Michele Hancock on the trip of a lifetime to South Africa and I hope to be one of them. On this 16 day trip, we will examine the business development, housing, and education of the natives. These three areas are critical to providing a global perspective on South Africa. The course description indicates that the educational system in South Africa has been ranked amongst the worst in the world and as a future educator, I truly believe that this trip will encourage and inspire me in my future endeavors as well as provoke me to bring other worldly struggles into the light within my future classroom. The cost of this remarkable trip will be about $3,900. This includes travel, hotel, food, and the activities and education that we will be participating in while in South Africa. I am able to put forth $1,000 personally, but while I am in school full-time, working outside of school part-time as well as on campus as a Resident Assistant, I do need some help alleviating the cost. As we are in the beginning of October, I have about 3 months to reach my highly-achievable goal! If you feel compelled to help in any way, please do so! Thank you so much in advance. Anything is greatly appreciated!
