Send Katrina to 2018 Paralympics

Hello-my name is Katrina Schaber, before I ask you to help me support my Paralympic dreams I want to tell you a little about myself.  I am a 20 year old college student with Cerebral Palsy (CP).  My journey with CP started over 10 years ago at a doctor’s appointment that would change my life forever.  I was diagnosed with CP, Attention Deficit Disorder and needed to have some tests done including a MRI and EEG all at the age of 8.  My mom was on the brink of tears and I truly did not understand what was happening.  At that moment I believed that my disability was a curse and I was so scared. I was in 3rd grade, failing school and many people thought that I was never going to make it out of high school, let alone college.  I was struggling trying to understand basic math concepts, could not draw a straight line, tie my shoe, or use a scissor. It seemed that many people had just given up on me. Less than 3 years after being diagnosed with CP I attended my first ski camp. 

My medical team knew that my family enjoyed skiing so they suggested a ski camp so I could learn to ski and meet other people with a disability.  At the age of 11, I boarded a plane all by myself and traveled to Winter Park, Colorado.  During my week at camp I met other people with CP and I realized that if they can ski so can I.  I found myself hooked on the sport and by the age of 14 I was recruited by an adaptive coach.  If I had never been diagnosed I would have never found my passion-ski racing. Through the years I have traveled across North America, competed in World Cup and World Championship events and brought home many medals.  I have risen to the rank of # 4 in the United States and top 17 in the world. In addition, in late 2013, I was nominated to travel to the 2014 Winter Olympics as a TD Ameritrade next generation Paralympian.

In order for me to take the next step in my journey I need your help. The cost of one ski season can run a pretty costly bill and I fund this with minimal assistance from grants, family, and a summer job. Any amount helps and with any money that I raise I can be one step closer to achieving my dream of competing in the 2018 Paralympic Games.
