So... I got into medical school!!
But now I need to fund it.
I have wanted to become a physician since I was in elementary school and my grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. The impact it made on my family brought me to the reality that even the strongest people can falter in the face of sickness.
Cancer unveiled the path of medicine as it presented a challenge I was unequipped to face. This challenge established my vow to surmount any obstacles to reach the end. I performed exceptionally well in school and found I gravitated towards the roles of leadership. I enjoyed joining sports teams, clubs, and student councils. These extracurriculars taught me how to foster a sense of community and offer support. I gained more insight into the field of medicine as I advanced further through the specialty high skills major medical program in high school. I was rewarded with learning from neurosurgeon Dr. Cusimano from St. Michael’s Hospital. Shadowing the life of a doctor and researcher at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute altered my view of doctorhood from a means to solely solve problems into a deep passion to provide community through the knowledge I’ve gained. I chose to pursue a degree in biology as a means to better acquaint myself with the required knowledge to become a physician. And now, I am going to begin the next step.
