Golden Gears Advance!

We are Golden Gears, a robotics team working from a home garage in La Canada and competing in the FIRST Technology Challenge (FTC) as Team #9881.  We just qualified for the SuperRegionals FTC Tournament in Spokane, WA, on March 8-11.  This is a big deal for us!  After three years of competing in the annual FTC challenge (funded by team parent donations), we have reached our goal of advancing to the 13-state tournament.   Please help 4 of the 6 team members get to Spokane next week!

We are proud to represent the La Canada community in this Tournament as the first team (public or private) to qualify for the Super Regional Tournament, a three-day tournament which features 72 teams from 13 states.  Learn more about FIRST, this year's FTC game, and how FIRST inspires young people to develop their interests in STEM fields by designing, building, and programming their own robots.  


After 3 local tournaments that saw several failures and promising successes, we competed at an Inter-League Tournament in early February where we won the Rockwell-Collins Innovate Award for our robot innovation.  Also, we were part of the winning alliance with two Monrovia High School teams and advanced to the LA Regional Championships in late February.  At that Tournament, we were on the winning alliance that won both the Division Championship and the Tournament Champhionship.  We are so excited with the outcome and the chance to compete in Spokane next week.
