Send Doug to NYC for Clinical Cancer Trial

Donation protected
In March of 2013, Douglas Kotter was diagnosed with a Stage 4 pediatric sarcoma cancer (DSRCT). Stage 4 means the cancer has metastasized throughout the body.  Since that fateful day 8 years ago Doug has been undergoing cancer treatments nearly constantly. Despite chemo, radiation, and 4 really invasive surgeries, Doug has worked full-time as he and his amazing wife, Angela, have been raising their 3 sons and 1 daughter. Doug has beaten the odds, but he’s running out of treatment options.

Through Doug and Angela’s research they found a clinical drug trial in NYC at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for which Doug currently qualifies. And blessing upon blessing, the clinical trial is for Doug’s exact cancer! Doug and Angela are very familiar with Sloan-Kettering, the cancer treatment center where Doug had 3 of his surgeries in 2014. Unfortunately, thanks to Covid, things have changed in ways that leave Doug and Angela needing a little help.

Back in 2014, they were able to get housing placement at the Ronald McDonald House. But that facility has now limited its usage for cancer patients who are 27 or younger.  The Hope House has closed its doors due to covid.  Sloan-Kettering will help pay for housing at a specific NYC hotel, but only on the days Doug gets treatment which will leave the Kotters paying for the hotel for several days out of each 3 week cycle. To keep Doug there for 4 cycles of chemo treatments will cost the Kotters at least $9600. Then they will do a scan.  If the treatment works, the need continues.

Provided Doug’s May scans(here in Utah) don’t show aggressive cancer growth, Doug can begin the clinical trial in early June!  But that means that they need help NOW.

The one caveat is that there’s a chance Doug’s May scans will show new cancer growth.  If that’s true, Doug will no longer qualify for the clinical trial, but it also means that financial help here is needed as they try to find ways to treat more aggressively here. If you prefer your donation be *only* for the NY treatment, please donate via Venmo @Douglas-Kotter. Doug will be able to refund you easily.
