Thank you to everyone who has donated to this campaign. Masen returned from his deployment in June 2018. We were able to send 55 soccer balls to Masen, who then gave them to local kids. Pretty impressive, as our original goal was 10 soccer balls. Masen said the kids were tremendously excited to receive an ultra-durable One World Play Project soccer ball.
This project was one that we never saw having a conclusion. We kept the campaign open because we know many children, especially those in the Middle East, do not have access to play. Currently, our sister, Cadyn, is deployed in Saudi Arabia, and we are hoping to do the same thing we did last year, only on a much larger scale – sending 100 soccer balls. We are also coordinating with other soldiers and their squadrons throughout the Middle East to send them One World Play Project soccer balls to share with the local kids they come across on their deployments.
While we are keeping this campaign open on Go Fund Me, we have opened a campaign on One World Play Project’s website, where you can directly donate a soccer ball. This will allow us free shipping within in the U.S., and we can avoid the fees associated with Go Fund Me. My brother, Masen, is a US Soldier and was deployed to the Middle East a few weeks ago (October 2017). He has had limited contact with me and my family, but the reoccurring theme throughout our conversations is that the hundreds of kids he and his unit encounter on a daily basis absolutely love playing soccer.
However, these kids do not have soccer balls. Instead, the kids have to use whatever is at hand to fashion a pseudo ball. My brother messaged me and asked if I could send a few soccer balls to him to give to the kids. I thought about going to Walmart or Academy to buy a few, but I realized these soccer balls would last less than a week on rough, desert terrain.
So I began doing research and found a company called One World Play Project. They are an organization that produces highly-durable soccer balls. Their mission is very much in line with my mission for this GoFundMe campaign, "We created an ultra-durable ball to bring the transformative power of play to the hundreds of millions of youth who don’t even have something as simple as a ball...Play is in our DNA...it heals and rebuilds communities devastated by war, disaster, disease, and poverty". I am raising money to buy and ship to Masen to give to the kids at least 10 "Buy One, Give one, Blue One World Futbols".
