Kansas City Poetry Slam wants to send our Grand Slam Champ to the Individual World Poetry slam this September and we need your help!
Adrianna “AP” Schoonover is a poet of mixed up emotions and mixed up ethnicity. She started poeting at the ripe age of 13. She competed in LTABKC and Brave New Voices with the Lincoln Poets team for several years. She was a semifinalist at Texas Grand Slam in 2018 and the KCPS Grand Slam Champ for 2019. She was nominated for Best Newcomer by the Music and More Poetry Foundation in 2019. Her poetry explores the complexities of race, family, relationships, femininity, and culture.
About iWPS (from worldslam.org)
“The Individual World Poetry Slam is a 3 day poetry slam festival that gives poets the opportunity to compete outside of a team competition for the title of the Individual World Poetry Slam Champion. The event will bring world acclaimed feature performers, poetry and performance workshops, specialty slams, open mics, and events for all ages to San Diego, CA
The contenders will hail from every major North American city, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Vancouver, as well as countries around the world such as Australia, France and Germany. Participants will compete in 2 days of preliminary competitions, culminating in a final clash of the top 14 poets on the final stage.”
** All proceeds from this fundraiser go directly to support travel costs for AP and our Program Director Abby Bland to get to San Diego in order to facilitate their participation in the festival September 25 through 29th, 2019.
