My grandmother just passed suddenly and unexpectedly. When my family went to the funeral home that my grandmother had an interest in using, we were shocked to learn that they required us to pay in full — without the option of a payment plan. The funeral home told us that we were “at-need” (which required payment in full), and that only “pre-need” (pre-arranged) funeral services were eligible for payment plans. In short, the funeral home has us over a barrel. Even when opting for economical funeral options, the total price is over $20,000. We’ve been given eight days (until March 20) until we have to pay the funeral home.
