''Seeing Disney''

" Love is blind; friendship closes its eyes."
                                        Friedrich Nietzsche

Close your eyes for a moment.

Now, when you open them look through a tiny hole you make with your fist, as though looking down the centre of a tube or pipe. Notice what you can see and what you cant.

A short while back I met a woman whose remarkable vision touched my heart..... even though her sight is restricted to that which you just experienced.

Now, close your fist, so there is no hole left.
That 5% range of sight that you had is now fully gone.

So too will Carol's sight fully dissapear very shortly.

My name is Danielle Serpico and the woman who made such an impact in my life in such a short time is the Irish woman in the photo above named Carol Brill and indeed aptly so....for 'Brill' she is.

Carol is full of life, exuberance, kindness and compassion. Carol is a single mother who single handedly raises her beautiful seven year old daughter Sara. Carol has charm, integrity, grace and a hugely adventurous spirit - and Carol also has Usher Syndrome.

A condition causing hearing loss or deafness and progressive vision loss due to an eye disease called RP (retinitis pigmentosa). Symptoms begin with nightblindness, then gradual loss of peripheral vision. Carol now has only 5 degrees of sight left where people have 180 degrees. She wears two hearing aids since the age of four. 1 in 25,000 people get Usher Syndrome.

Carol is a natural daredevil. She raced through college earning her degree, threw herself out of planes for fun and is now in the process of setting up her own business and writing her first book.

There is one thing however that Carol fears.
Not being able to see her daughters face and her wish come true for her 8th birthday..... You see Carol never gives Sara presents. Just wishes.

Her 7th birthday was to dip her toe in Killarney
lakes. Done. Her 6th birthday was a horse and carriage ride around St. Stephens Green.

Her wish is to celebrate her 8th birthday on the 23rd of July 2015 in Disney World while her mum still has a tiny bit of vision left to see it with her.

What I am asking is that we help her fulfill this wish before time runs out. Carol came to me as I work as a Coach & Mentor but I feel Carol helped me in so many ways also. I felt the need to do something in return, so I decided to start this campaign to help make her dream reality.

Carol does not want sympathy or pity.
She wants to be self sufficient and be able to look after her daughter, which is why she is working very hard at present on her new business idea and will be giving you a bespoke present as a huge thank you when you help make her and her daughters wish come true.

I am asking we help 'pay it forward'. I for one will definitely be the first and I hope you will follow.

The trip to the USA is not solely about a visit to Disney.  Carol will be participating for a second time in a research study at the National Eye Institute in Bethesda, Maryland.  This research study is looking at the historical progression of Usher Syndrome, before further research for treatments or cures can begin.

After completing her tests at the hospital, she will travel to Baltimore to speak at the Foundation Fighting Blindness Visions Conference which will be attended by over 600 people.  Sara will fly over from Dublin to be reunited with Carol and they will both attend the Usher Coalition Family Conference in New Orleans.
Then they will travel to Disney World to celebrate Sara’s 8th birthday.

Carol is determined to go it alone, without a chaperone or help, even with only 5% range of vision left. I know she is desperate to make this a reality.  Any excess funds raised will be used towards a Guide dog when she gets back home.

I know that your kindness and your goodwill will be reciprocated tenfold by Carol and I promise to keep you updated on their progress. They cannot do this without you.

This is the LAST big milestone Carol will ever see her daughter reach. She won’t see her daughters face on her 18th or 21st or even her 9th birthday. She won’t see how beautiful she looks on her wedding day or her grandchildren’s faces.
For Carol may be 100% Blind by next year.

Please help Carol 'See Disney' and see her daughters smiling face so that she can hold that in her heart forever, before as she says (in her words) ......
'the lights go out'.

You can keep up with Carol’s progress on www.seeingdisney.com or www.facebook.com/seeingdisney or on twitter @SeeingDisney.

Oh and PLEASE help share this on Facebook and on Twitter using the #seeingdisney!

Thank you so much in advance,
Yours sincerely,
Danielle Serpico  xx
