Presentation of Stefanias Maurizis book "Secret Power - WikiLeaks and its enemies" in Georg Büchner Buchladen on the 21st of November in Berlin

Me, Raja Stutz, have been actively volunteering for Julian Assange's freedom for two years, defending freedom of the press, human rights and democratic values, because I believe that these values can only be upheld if we all participate in them. Every Friday I am at the Brandenburg Gate with an information booth, twice a month at an audience discussion at the Acud cinema and for the Forum Computer Scientists for Peace and Social Responsibility (FIfF) I regularly inform about news and backgrounds on the Assange case via a mailing list.
Claudia Daseking: I have been on the streets for Julian Assange since 2019. In the beginning, to fight for the life of a smart and brave person who is pilloried for publishing war crimes. In the meantime, I have learnt so much about freedom of expression and freedom of the press that I can't stop, so wide and important is the whole field that opens up. From my online press collection I made this video "Letters for Assange".
Wherever you start looking into the case, .... you always want to know more. Promoting investigative journalist Stefania Maurizi's book is worth every second, and I want to help spread the word, not least among journalists.
Me, Clara López Rubio, am the director of Hacking Justice:
In the film we accompany Assange and his lawyers over nine years. The film is still regularly shown around the world.
For the presentation of the book we need 2600 €: for the flight of Stefania Maurizi, two nights accomodation in Berlin, the rental of the space in the Georg Büchner Bookstore, rental of microphones, honorary of two translators and the moderator of the evening. We also want to pay some announcements in magazines/ daily press (one little announcement in the magazine Tip costs 400 €!!!), design flyers and posters for the event, print them and pay two people who distribute all the flyers and posters through the city.
What we most urgently need is to buy Stefanias flight and to start designing the flyers.
We do not pay ourselves a fee and organise this event 100% out of conviction and passion. We take a small entrance fee as a second support besides this campaign and we will give regular updates here about sold tickets and raised donations. If in the end more money is raised than needed, we will donate it to an initiative for Julian Assange's freedom.

More and more secrecy among those in power, more and more surveillance of journalists - Some highlights:
80 press freedom and human rights organisations from across Europe appeal to the Council of the European Union in a joint letter to protect journalists against surveillance software. The long-awaited regulation against Pegasus and similar spywares is now to be softened: with the killing phrase of "national security" as an exception, state Trojans against the press will now ultimately be legalised.
The German investigative journalist Gaby Weber has been suing the Federal Intelligence Service (Bundesnachrichtendienst BNB) for years for the release of the Eichmann files: The BND extended the legal secrecy period first from 30 to 60 years and then indefinitely. The public and the guild of historians are to be kept away from the true circumstances of the so-called Eichmann abduction.
The "Spiegel" magazine recently described the USA as having a "cult" of secrecy, with documents being "classified" as not being available to the public every second. We TV viewers see the countless boxes marked "classified" in Donald Trump's garage (or Biden's) and wonder.
Like her German colleague Gaby Weber, it has cost Italian investigative journalist Stefania Maurizi a lot of energy, time and (donation and her own pocket) money to sue the authorities for secret documents with the Freedom of Information Act. It is thanks to Maurizi that we know to some extent which authorities maintained the detention of Julian Assange and how. Nils Melzer also worked with her research! And her book, now published in English, explains how Wikileaks changed journalism and what the current state of journalism is, at a time when - thanks to the infinite imprisonment of Julian Assange - publishing secret war crimes is criminalized for all.
„I want to live in a society where it is possible to reveal war crimes and torture without ending up in prison and on the brink of suicide three times, as happened to Chelsea Manning. Without being forced to live in exile, like Edward Snowden. Without losing my freedom for over ten years and risking suicide, like Julian Assange. I want to live in a society where secret power is accountable to the law and the public for its atrocities. Where those who go to jail are the war criminals, not those who have the conscience and the courage to expose them, and the journalists who reveal their crimes.
Today, such an authentically democratic society does not exist. And no one is going to create it for us. It is up to us to fight for it. For those who are with us, for those who are not and even for those who are against us.” (Conclusion fo Stefania Maurizi's book).

Hallo, wir sind Raja Stutz, Claudia Daseking und Clara López Rubio. Um die Präsentation zu ermöglichen, haben wir dieses Crowdfunding gestartet.
Ich, Raja Stutz, setze mich seit zwei Jahren aktiv ehrenamtlich für die Freiheit von Julian Assange ein, um die Pressefreiheit, die Menschenrechte und die demokratischen Werte zu verteidigen, denn ich glaube, dass diese Werte nur aufrechterhalten werden können, wenn wir uns alle daran beteilligen. Jede Woche freitags bin ich mit einem Informationsstand am Brandenburger Tor, zweimal im Monat bei einer Publikumsdiskussion im Acud-Kino und für den Forum Informatiker für Frieden und gesellschaftliche Verantwortung (FIfF) informiere ich regelmäßig über eine Mailingliste über Neuigkeiten und Hintergründe zum Fall Assange.
Claudia Daseking: Seit 2019 bin ich für Julian Assange auf der Straße. Am Anfang, um für das Leben eines klugen und mutigen Menschen zu kämpfen, der für das Veröffentlichen von Kriegsverbrechen am Pranger steht. Inzwischen habe ich so viel über Meinungs- und Pressefreiheit gelernt, dass ich nicht mehr aufhören kann, so weit und wichtig ist das ganze Feld, das sich eröffnet. Aus meiner online-Pressesammlung habe ich dieses Video "Letters for Assange" gemacht.
Wo immer man anfängt, sich mit dem Fall zu beschäftigen, .... man will immer mehr wissen.
Das Buch der Investigativjournalistin Stefania Maurizi zu bewerben, ist jede Sekunde Einsatz wert, und ich möchte helfen, es zu verbreiten, nicht zuletzt unter Journalist*innen.
Ich Clara López Rubio bin die Co-Regisseurin von Hacking Justice (2021). Im Film begleiten wir Assange und seine Anwälte über neun Jahren. Der Film wird regelmäßig auf der ganzen Welt gezeigt.
Wir wollen in November Stefania Maurizzi nach Berlin einladen, um ihr Buch "Secret Power" zu präsentieren. Für die Präsentation des Buches benötigen wir 2600 €: für den Flug von Stefania Maurizi, zwei Übernachtungen in Berlin, die Anmietung des Raumes in der Georg Büchner Buchhandlung, die Anmietung von Mikrofonen, das Honorar für zwei Übersetzer und die Moderation des Abends. Außerdem wollen wir einige Anzeigen in Zeitschriften/Tagespresse bezahlen (eine kleine Anzeige in der Zeitschrift Tip kostet 400 €!), Flyer und Plakate für die Veranstaltung entwerfen und zwei Leute bezahlen, die alle Flyer und Plakate in der Stadt verteilen.
Sobald die ersten Spenden eingehen, werden wir die neuesten Informationen veröffentlichen. Was wir am dringendsten brauchen, ist der Kauf von Stefanias Flug und die Gestaltung der Flugblätter.
Wir zahlen uns kein Honorar und organisieren diese Veranstaltung zu 100% freiwillig aus Überzeugung und Leidenschaft. Wir nehmen einen kleinen Eintrittspreis als zweite Unterstützung neben dieser Kampagne und werden hier regelmäßig über verkaufte Tickets und gesammelte Spenden berichten. Sollte am Ende dennoch mehr Geld zusammenkommen als benötigt, werden wir es an eine Initiative für die Freiheit von Julian Assange spenden.
Am Ende werden wir hier eine Zusammenfassung der Veranstaltung und der Kampagne veröffentlichen.

Welchen Zweck hat Journalismus, wenn man keine Kriegsverbrechen veröffentlichen darf?
Immer mehr Geheimhaltung bei den Regierenden, immer mehr Überwachung der Journalisten - Einige Schlaglichter:
80 Organisationen für Pressefreiheit und Menschenrechte aus ganz Europa appellieren in einem gemeinsamen Brief an den Rat der Europäischen Union, Journalisten gegen Überwachungssoftware zu schützen. Die lange erwartete Regelung gegen Pegasus und ähnliche Spywares soll nämlich nun aufgeweicht werden: mit der Totschlagsbegründung „Nationale Sicherheit“ als Ausnahme werden damit Staatstrojaner gegen die Presse nun letztlich legalisiert.
Die deutsche Investigativjournalistin Gaby Weber klagt seit Jahren gegen den Bundesnachrichtendienst auf Herausgabe der Eichmann-Akten: Der BND verlängerte die gesetzliche Geheimhaltungsfrist zuerst von 30 auf 60 Jahre und danach auf unbestimmte Zeit. Die Öffentlichkeit und die Historikerzunft sollen von den wahren Umständen der sogenannten Eichmann-Entführung ferngehalten werden.
Wie ihre deutsche Kollegin Gaby Weber kostet es auch die italienische Investigativjournalistin Stefania Maurizi viel Kraft, viel Zeit und (Spenden- und eigenes) Geld, den Behörden mit dem Freedom-of-Information-Act geheime Unterlagen herauszuklagen. Maurizi ist es zu verdanken, dass wir zu einem Teil wissen, welche Behörden das Festhalten von Julian Assange aufrechterhielten und wie. Mit ihren Recherchen hat auch Nils Melzer gearbeitet! Und ihr jetzt in der englischen Fassung erschienenes Buch erklärt, wie Wikileaks den Journalismus veränderte und wie es aktuell um den Journalismus steht, in einer Zeit, in der das Veröffentlichen von geheim gehaltenen Kriegsverbrechen durch die endlose Haft von Julian Assange für alle unter Strafe gestellt ist.
