Second Chance Cats of West Michigan Start Up Fund

Donation protected
Second Chance Cats of West Michigan is a start-up cat rescue located in Grand Rapids, MI.  Co-Founder Jody Newman comes with 42 years cat rescue and TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) experience and Co-Founder Laura Moody has been working in cat rescue and medical care for the past 8 years. They have been working together in West Michigan for the past 3 years to rehabilitate and find homes for homeless and abandoned cats.

Our Mission is to work with municipal shelters as well as the West Michigan community to rescue cats in need of a little more time, patience, care, and understanding; giving them a second chance at a full and healthy life. Whether that mean medical attention or the time and space to learn to trust again, we will not give up on these living souls.

With the recent closure of two feline adoption centers in the Grand Rapids area, we saw the need for this in the West Michigan community.

We have started leasing a building on the corner of Knapp and Fuller in Grand Rapids. This building needs remodeling done before we can open the adoption center. We need to have walls built, drywall hung, floors finished, a double entry doorway put in, and all the finishing touches.

While we are remodeling, we are also busy saving and rehabilitating cats in the community so they can be adopted out into their forever homes.

We will use these start-up funds to:
1. Complete the remodel. With cost of lumber and most building materials at an all time high right now, it has been difficult to get the construction part going.
2. Pay the building's monthly rent and utilities- est. around $2000 per month.
3. Provide ongoing care to the cats we currently have in foster. This includes medical care, spay/neutering, vaccines, de-worming, fecal exams, microchips, flea treatment as well as food and litter. We currently have 50 cats in foster care.

This new cat rescue is a community effort. We believe that ‘the capacity to help animals is not the capacity of our physical space, but the capacity of the community.’

Funding Second Chance Cats of West Michigan will help to save many feline lives for years to come. We have a great team of dedicated volunteers and would love to have others join as well. To join us on our journey and see what we are doing with the funds, please follow us on:
