Have you been thinking about how college students are being affected by COVID-19 and looking for ways to support? You are at the right spot! Seattle University Society of Hispanic Society Professional Engineers Student Chapter is looking for your support:

Due to the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic, our planned fundraising operations for this year have been canceled. We appreciate any donations you can make to help us attend the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers 2020 National Conference. Although this year it will be a virtual conference, there is still a price associated with attending. This is where you come in! Any donations will be much appreciated, and we thank you for your time and support in advance.

So, what is the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)?

It is a national professional organization founded in Los Angeles back in 1973 by Rodrigo Garcia Who gathered a small group of like-minded engineers who shared similar experiences. Despite being in the STEM field, having been an exception to the statistics they still experienced discrimination. Together they worked to form SHPE as we know it today, an organization with a vision where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. SHPE serves more than 11,000 members, 375 college and university chapters along with high school programs, and they are coming up to 50 years of work. (https://www.shpe.org/about-shpe)

What is the Seattle University SHPE Student Chapter about?

Keeping in mind the national organization’s mission and vision which we all believe in, the Seattle University chapter focuses on the following:
- Provide all members with meaningful professional career development
- Mentor any member that is needing help either in academics or a professional career
- Support all members with any financial need to attend professional conferences or tuition
- Lead an example for younger STEM driven individuals and spread awareness in STEM
- Help provide connections with top tier engineering companies and lay a path for future careers

What is the National Conference?

It is a conference held once a year where all the student and professional chapters come together to learn about a plethora of topics from professional development, leadership, innovative technologies, to taking part in engineering challenges sponsored by companies such as Boeing, Raytheon, NASA, Nissan etc. Through this conference attendees not only get a vast amount of extremely valuable information, but they also get to network with professionals and obtain internship/job opportunities.

How can you support?

We would greatly appreciate any amount of monetary donation that you can provide, every dollar counts. Another way to support is to share this link to your professional networks to spread the word. Additionally, you could connect with us via LinkedIn to stay tuned on other ways you can support the chapter.

Once again, thank you very much for your donations and time!
