Sean Thayne Memorial Fund

Sean Thayne, age 30, lost his life trying to rescue 4 year old London DeDios and her mother Brenda DeDios in the Provo River in Utah on May 29, 2017. Sean Thayne’s family said, “We would like to send our sad condolences to the other drowning victims as only we can understand their grief at this tragic loss.

"Sean was a loving, brave and selfless man. At 6’3”, he looked over and looked out for all of us. Born August 25,1986, Sean was a self-taught computer programmer for Playground Sessions, a Quincy Jones company.   He had an infectious smile that couldn't help but spread, especially when he was trying to win an argument with you.  He was always selfless, willing to give his all to help those he loved.  Sean was a student of the world, he loved to learn, travel, expand his horizons and meet new people and had a keen mind. He was the second oldest of 5 with an older sister and 3 younger brothers. Sean was learning Chinese on the internet when he found his beautiful wife Xin-Li Thayne, known as Poppy."

"This fund is to help Poppy cope with the sudden loss of her husband Sean, to help with funeral expenses, and to help her transition into earning a living to support herself.  We would also like to use funds to bring awareness of the danger of the fast moving water by Bridal Veil Falls.

"Poppy and our family wish to remind parents and others to please stay away from raging water, as currents are often far stronger than they appear to be. It only takes a second for tragedy to occur. We thank the Utah County Sherriff’s office and Utah Valley Medical personnel for their attempts to save our Sean. We hope that more fences and warning signs can be erected to prevent further loss of lives.”
