Sean Hickey Medical Fund
For the last 2 weeks, as I prayed about starting this fundraiser, and in the midst of a pandemic, I felt so very torn...
I know how tough things are right now for many.
So ... I ask you, if praying is what you’re able to do
right now, that you would know that your gift of
prayer is SO incredibly important and precious..
and we thank you with all our hearts.
Our son, Sean, as many know, was involved in a
motorcycle accident on Wednesday, August 26th.
I got a call from Sean at about 10:30 am and I sent
it to voicemail because I was in the middle of trying to help Kiera with homeschooling, and we were
online with her teachers.
I quickly sent him a text that I would call him back
in a few minutes. Then I started getting bombarded with calls from a strange number on the home
phone. I did not answer but in a few minutes I
called the number back and heard..
Memorial Regional Hospital.... I immediately got
that sick feeling that something was wrong.. I tried to call Sean..several times.... no answer...
then finally, an angel answered his phone.. a nurse
in the emergency room... so it was not Sean who
was calling me, it was Denise!
She said we have your son... and I could hear the
doctor saying “tell her to come”...
for them to be saying that, during this pandemic
when no one is being allowed in... I was freaking
out!! The most important thing I can say right now is that God held us together and GOD saved
SEAN’s life!!
.. no one expects to get hit at 10 am on a sunny
Wednesday morning while just running to Publix.
He was knocked out, and almost killed... and has
some serious injuries... and I know, without a doubt that God has a purpose for Sean’s life... right here,
and we are SO grateful!!
When I saw him, he was still out... badly beaten up and bloody...they had already been doing a ton of
tests while I frantically drove down to East
Hollywood...
then they told me... we believe he’s going to be ok.. I can’t tell you how badly I wanted to hear those
words!
He was so incredibly lucky to not have a more
serious head or spinal injury, he did not lose his life or a limb, or have brain damage, or become
paralyzed... any or all of that could very well have
happened.. He truly had angels watching over him.
However, he did suffer from 7 broken ribs, a
broken nose, a crushed kidney and spleen, had tonsof road rash, lots of stitches, and knocked out and/or broke all of his beautiful front teeth. He is
having a tough time walking and still needs to see
an orthopedic doctor.
For those who don’t know, Sean has been through
some pretty rough times, probably mostly due to
his own decisions. But this accident was not his
fault... a young girl, with very minimal coverage,
pulled out and hit him. He had no insurance, lost
his job due to Covid-19, finally got his
unemployment, bought this bike, with the plan
of starting school to become a mechanic.
I honestly had no idea what amount to try to raise, because the hospital bills alone are astronomical... but I do know that the continued medical care he
needs will be several thousand and his dental work is estimated at 12k.... he says he’d like to repair his bike... but we are really hoping he just sells it! The only reason he got it, instead of a car was the high
cost of automobile insurance..... ironically. And he
is planning to enroll in school ASAP.
I just want him to get the medical care he needs and deserves and hopefully, when he can get his beautiful smile back, he will regain some confidence to get out there, go to school, gain employment and most importantly, I pray he will one day share his testimony to help others!
Our family will be helping him, as much as we can.. we all want to see Sean become everything that
God created him to be, to be thankful for his life
and be a happy, healthy, confident and productive
young man...
and we just want to say thank you so much for all
of the constant calls, messages and outpouring of
prayers, concern and love for our son.
Please continue to pray for Sean’s physical,
emotional and spiritual health, for God to guide
him and may his heart and eyes finally, truly be
opened and that he really understands how
incredibly blessed he is to be alive!
