Seamonster, childlessness not by choice

Tax deductible

Saemonster, the Story  is a solo, autobiographical performance by singer-songwriter Chiara Berardelli of her experience of being childless-not-by-choice and her quest for being ok with that.

Centered around the ten songs from her album Seamonster, Chiara tackles the often taboo but ever present subject of grief and building a meaningful life beyond motherhood.

We want to offer this performance as a free live stream as part of World Childless Week . World Childless Week is voluntary and all donate their time for free, including Chiara. This campaign is to cover the technical costs of the live steaming only. We want to offer this performance free so we can reach as many people across the globe reducing as many barriers as possible.

We greatly appreciate your support in enabling this vital work to reach out to, support and benefit men and women from across the globe who are experiencing childlessness not by choice.

Chiara says, “Not having the family I dreamed of affected me in more ways than I could have imagined. Shame was a factor that I didn’t expect. I want to use my experience to reach out to others and start conversations about what it still largely a taboo subject.”

World Childless Week  aims to raise awareness of the childless not by choice (cnbc) community. To help the community to find support groups that understand their grief and can help them move forwards to acceptance. It's for anyone who is childless despite their longing to be a parent because they have never been pregnant (for any reason), not carried full term or have suffered the sadness of a baby born sleeping.

Chiara Berardelli  is an Italian Scottish singer-songwriter living in Glasgow, Scotland. She grew up playing classical piano but spent most of her time playing along to any songs that made it over the airwaves to the Highlands of Scotland. Chiara left her job as a doctor to follow her passion and studied music and songwriting in London and Bath. A lover of words, chords and honesty she writes confessional pop songs about life and how it affects her.

Chiara has collaborated with writer and director Rachel McJury (conFAB) to produce an intimate performance recounting of her experience of being childless not by choice and her quest to be ok with that.  Seamonster, the Story appeared at The Glad Cafe, Glasgow, March 2019, The Barbican in April 2019 as part of Fertility Fest and is journeying to Edinburgh's Free Fringe Festival in August.

conFAB is a multi-artform arts organisation. Central to the organisation is a very real and deep-rooted commitment to community and education-based work which strives for artistic excellence as well as respecting the crucial development process. We aim to support and develop accessible, high quality arts practices, which promote the well-being and development of all people.
