Father's Day morning my Mom said she had to call 911 and dad was purple. Dad had a witnessed cardiac arrest and when the medics got him he was in asystole. By the time they got to Anderson Mercy, Dad was back in rhythm and was trying to breathe over the vent. Dad went through several rounds of CPR with a Lucas Device, got shocked twice and went through several rounds of cardiac drugs. From the time of the arrest to the first shock was right at 5 minutes and the fire department had him back trying to breathe on his own and in a sustainable rhythm in an ER bed in 28 minutes from the time of call.
Unfortunately we don’t know what caused any of this and other than a slight case of pneumonia in the left lobe of his lungs, they didn’t see much wrong with him. He’s on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma undergoing hypothermia protocols. It will be several days before they will be able to start waking him up.
Please share his story if you can to help support him and my mom through this time.
