My name is Michelle and this is a picture of my husband Gregory who was in the hospital at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) and its extended facilities, in uptown Charlotte, NC.  He was in the hospital since the beginning of November 2017 with co-occurring illnesses fighting for his life for three and a half months until he went home to be with the Lord Friday, February 23, 2018 (my birthday).  He left behind his two daughters, Emma and Amara, his son Julian and many others who love him dearly. 

My husband was a kidney transplant patient (recieved 2009) and was doing well up until a little over a year ago when he went into the hospital due to complications from his diabetes.  He began experienceing extreme muscle weakness and extreme fatigue, while at work as a Dialysis Tech and eventually had to take a leave from his job.  He was diagnosed with Diabetic Ketoacidosis. This along with other illnessess began to affect his muscles, nerves, his transplanted kidney etc.

Over time his health worsened.  Because he had to take immune suppressent drugs, in order to keep his body from attacking his transplanted kidney, it made him easily susceptible and he became infected with the Metapneumo Virus (HMPV) and had to be hospitalized, yet again, back in November 2017, where his health began to rapidly decline ( extreme muscle weakness, extreme water weight gain, trouble breathing, sepsis, A-fib, pneumonia etc).  These events affected his transplanted kidney and as a result he had to be put on dialysis daily .  Over the course of the three months Greg was battling Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), diabetes, elevated heart rates, low platelets, low potassium and magnesium, hypertension, nerve damage, pnuemonia and other crisis. The medical staff (doctors/nurses) were trying to keep his transplanted kidney from failing.  In the midst of it all, my husband some how ended up becoming infected with the ecoli bacteria.  He could no longer lift himself or walk by the end. His body became to weak.  He had to be intubated twice.  Eventually his heart became to weak to continue in the fight and it gave up.  On Februrary 23, 2018, my birthday, Greg fell asleep due to low oxygen levels and his heart stopped.  They tried to revive him, but his heart would not respond. Greg went home to be with the Lord.  I lost my best friend and an angel that day.  He was my gift from God and I was the one who was truly blessed to have had him in my world and that he chose to share his life and love with me.  He was a wonderful and loving father, and a loving husband.    

Throughout this process I did my best to support him (going back and forth to the hospital each day), while taking care of our children and working, which was only part time, so that I could spend time with him, advocate on his behalf regarding medical treatment and care and still care for our daughters. It was and still is emotionally, spiritually and physically overwhelming, but I am doing what I can.  Unfortunately, his long stay in the hospital, created a huge medical expense for me and my family. In all honesty, I need help. During this difficult transition, I have to relocate and down size in order to sustain and maintain some kind of normalcy for my girls. Until I can attain full-time employment, my part-time job cannot effectively or efficiently handle this financial burden and sustain my family at the same time.

The funds from donations will help us with left over medical expenses, household bills, moving expenses etc. any donations and contributions will help assist me in keeping my family stabilized while we try and adjust to life without my husband/their father.  Any amount will help us reach the  goal above.  Me and my family thank you and appreciate you in advance for whatever you can give.
