Scoliosis Treatment For Laurie Cooke
Donation protected
Laurie is passionate about softball. In 2017 she began to feel extreme pain & numbness when pitching. We stopped her pitching completely & began to investigate the cause of her pain. We learned that she has scoliosis in the upper part of her back causing her nerves to pinch when she would try to pitch. She accepted the fact that she could no longer pitch & instead focused her efforts on becoming a middle infielder. But she is still in a lot of pain and upon more in depth evaluations we have found out that she also has a spinal rotation at her lower back where her pelvis and hips are supposed to align. The timing couldn’t be worse! Our insurance does not cover any treatment for scoliosis unless the child is in the “Severe” zone at which the treatment would be surgery. We even asked the Helpful Honda Dealers for help!
Laurie has hopes of becoming a Veterinarian & along with that she wishes to continue to play the sport she loves in college. That would mean another 6 years of enduring this type of pain with the possibility of it getting worse with time. The recruiting window opens up for Laurie this Summer. We chose a Scoliosis Specialist to send Laurie to this Summer. It is a strenuous 5 day Bootcamp where they customize the treatment to her specific issues. They will build a unit for her to bring home with her so that she can continue her treatment at home. The cost of the Bootcamp is $700 per day, total of $3500. The Doctor is in New York & he has many cases of significant reversal & is the best at what he does. If needed she may have to purchase an activity suit, like a brace and that would be $1500 in addition to the cost of the camp. Our girl feels the pain after each & every practice & game. We get her regular chiropractic treatments to help her get comfortable but we need to treat the root of the problem. We are asking for help from our family, friends & associates. Her dreams of playing in college is important but her overall well-being and happiness means the most to us!
