SCI Medical Needs - Brian Slattery

I don't have to tell the people that know Brian Slattery what an awesome guy he is.  But for those of you that don't, let me share Brian's story.  Eight years ago, Brian had an accident while working construction in Jacksonville.  He suffered a C4-C5 spinal cord injury, along with multiple broken bones, that left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair.  He has been working at his recovery at Brooks Rehabilitation Center ever since, eventually excelling as a member of the Brooks Bandits rugby team.  

However, as a long-term SCI survivor, Brian is now facing an uncertain future with many challenges that are both physical and financial.  Brian needs help with basic everyday activities including cleaning his apartment, food preparation, laundry, shopping and more.  Home healthcare and assistance is expensive in the long term and insurance covers very little.  Brian lives alone and is on a fixed income that allows very few extras.  

I have personally known Brian for the past 6 years after I first came to Brooks after my own accident.  He reached out to me as a friend when I needed one the most and now I want to pay it forward to him.  Brian is an inspiration to all who know him so for my birthday this year on March 29, I want all my friends and their friends and their friends to open their hearts and wallets and show a local man in need what this community is all about.  If I have ever inspired you, if I have ever helped you, if you have ever told me "I will be there" now is the time to act like you care.  Think global, act local!
