Schulyer came to Miss Kim to just cover a shift or two, a little bit gruff looking with a couple of missing teeth and not very chatty.  After a series of dishwashers with attendance issues, I have to admit that my hope for a solid dishwasher was kind of at a low point then.  But he kept showing up.

When he came to us, we were struggling a bit.  The culture in the kitchen was not where we wanted it to be, and the staff were not playing like one team. It was at a time when about a half of our kitchen staff left at the same time for various reasons, and that was tough.  But he stayed, stepped up to become a line cook, and became an essential part of the new team that turned it around. I am proud that we provided a safe and healthy working environment for him, but the truth is that he did so much more for us than we did for Schulyer.

More than anything, he was just a sweet guy, despite all of your loud rants.  Or maybe because of it. You made us laugh a lot, you know?  He would crack jokes, have loud funny rants, play music and talk shit.  All the while working so hard for us, and so hard to better his life.

He was open and genuine and plain about his struggles, and I hope he felt accepted and appreciated with us here.  We wish there was more we could have done for you while you were here with us.  Now we just want to pitch in as best as we can to make your last journey a little easier and help your family out.

Rest in peace, Schulyer.  We already miss you.
