Schtick Short Film

In 2020 my team and I set out on a mission to make a short film about a Black filmmaker who attempts to get his first feature-length film produced by a shady production company. Little did we know a global pandemic would halt our production for an extended period of time. We took that time to prioritize our health, connect with loved ones, and recharge our minds. Over a year has passed and we’re back, ready to resume production. For that to happen though, we need your help!

 

My name is Terrence Edwards and I’m an indie filmmaker and multifaceted creative from New York but based in LA. I write, produce and I direct. I run a production company called Created Knots where we create, develop and share powerful stories that we care about. We’ve set our focus on getting this film made before March of 2022. 

 

THE STORY

Our film follows an ambitious young filmmaker eager to get his film made to finally get his big break. He seeks the help of a shady production company for resources and funding but soon realizes it’s not the deal he was hoping for. 

 

 

WHY THIS FILM MATTERS?

 

Schtick was written in 2018 after my personal work and another story idea was literally snatched from under my nose. At first, I created a strategic plan to get even or return the favor with the folks that did me wrong. Then, something hit me to not lose my shit and just turn my pain to art. Instead of quitting, and feeling all depressed about it, I decided to be the artistic person that I am and tell a story about it. I thought to myself, I know I’m not the only person in Hollywood that experienced something similar to this. This production was slated for a 2020 run, then Covid-19 hit the world, so we had to push it back. Obviously certain parts of the story were amplified to put the pieces together to tell a solid story. This film is important because this is my story, my truth, and in a way, my revenge moment. Not to mention, the norm of Hollywood and the Entertainment business. A place where people will step on and over just about anyone to get ahead.

 

Many folks burn a bridge just to try to light their way.

 

That’s never a good idea in my book.

 

 

WHERE YOU COME IN:

Short films are expensive to make, especially when hiring professional talent, securing locations, and feeding crew etc. With your support, we’ll be able to ensure a safe set and acquire all the elements needed to make this film as best as possible. We’re trying to raise $18,000 in the next few weeks before we start production in March of 2022.

Every dollar received will go toward the production of this film. If any funds remain, they will be put toward post-production and entering film festivals. Festivals can cost anywhere from $75 to $300 to enter. Every donation we receive will be used wisely and intentionally.
