School Supply Drive for Dagbamete Basic School

Donation protected
Dagbamete is the most magical place on the planet. Everyone who goes there falls in love with it. Most return. Some make it their home.

This is a community that works together for the betterment of individuals and the community as a whole. From raising money for a new ICT Centre for the school, to the weekly communal labour that keeps the community looking beautiful and clean, to the building of a medical clinic available to all in the community and surrounding areas, and much more - the village of Dagbamete has shown an unyielding committment to raising up each and every person within it.

That said, there are still ways in which support can go a long way in this incredible place we call home. So that is why we have decided to raise money for school supplies for Dagbamete Basic School.

The teachers and students are dedicated to education, but receive very little support from the government (paradoxically, because they used their own community generated funds to build the school, the government feels they do not need to contribute in any meaningful way to its maintenance.)

This is a way we can give the teachers the boost they need to continue to provide outstanding education and give the students a great head start in anything they go on to do.

Money raised will go towards all things that will set the students and teachers up for success in the classroom, as identified by current teachers and the Head Teacher, including pencils, composition books, paper, crayons, markers, and textbooks. The textbooks and composition books in particular will be purchased in Ghana (again in consultation with the school), as they are specific to the curriculum there.

We will also use a portion of the funds raised to sew uniforms for the kids who aren't able to purchase them, as uniforms are required to attend school. The cost of materials and labour for each uniform is approximately $10 - $15 CDN.

All supplies will be managed and distributed in partnership with respected Elder of Dagbamete and Chairperson of the Community Teacher's Association, Kwabla Awunyo.

Thank you all so much! Or as they say in Dagbamete, Akpe ka ka ka!
