School & Health Improvement
Donation protected
Located in Bukit Lawang, Indonesia, the Bukit Lawang Trust Education Center is an inspiring school. In an area that is equally known for its harmful palm oil production as it is for it's endangered orangutan population, the school is helping the kids in the community to see the value in protecting the environment rather than profit from its destruction. The students are learning everything from conservation and sustainable farming practices to lessons on nutrition and English langauge learning. However, while the students are learning, they are having to do so in harmful conditions. Some of the school rooms being utilized are overrun with dangerous black mold. Black mold can lead to mental impairment, breathing problems, damage to internal organs, etc. In trying to get an education, these children and their teachers are being exposed daily to toxins.
We would like to raise $4,500 US dollars to rid the school of its mold. The money will also help the school to strengthen its building foundation, allowing for the school to be around longer for future generations. Upon completion of raising this money, the school has graciously offered to dedicate one of the classrooms in memory of our grandmother, Luz Maria DeSilva, who recently passed away. Our grandmother was an English language learner herself and valued education. She was also kind and generous and would have wanted to help.
Please help us to both improve the learning environment for these children and honor the memory of our grandmother. Thank you!
