“The land is sacred. These words are at the core of your being. The land is our mother, the rivers our blood. Take our land away and we die. That is, the Indian in us dies.” – Mary Brave Bird, Lakota
Woodbine Ecology Center
In the current climate of the pandemic, where social distancing and safer at home practices are often preludes to anxiety, depression and isolation we find that not only our most vulnerable members of society are at risk, but also those that through our eyes are seen as brave and courageous too. Woodbine Ecological Center is a place that offers healing through the wonders of the forest. It has become a part of many communities and organizations offering space to gather, break bread, share the medicines of our precious earth and explore the wonders of the forest. We refer to our planet as our mother embracing the powers of compassion, guidance and healing that we learn from our own mothers as they nurture us from the womb to adulthood. Like our mothers, Woodbine gives us the space to honor ourselves, connect to our plant and animal relatives, and find healing through community with the earth beneath our feet and the trees above our heads.
We are using this time to implement forest and land management projects so when the pandemic is a thing of the past Woodbine will be ready to host gatherings, workshops/trainings and educational programs for our members and the greater public. This is a call to support our current project in forestry management. We are cutting down 40 trees to minimize the opportunity for wildfires and protect the existing structures on the property. We are asking for cash donations to help us purchase a portable wood saw mill to be used to procure the natural resource of the lumber on the land for renovations of the existing structures at Woodbine. This project is designed to create defensible space and reuse/recycle the lumber on the land.
Thank you,
