Saving Piper Williams

Donation protected
My name is Jaala and I am posting this on behalf of my sister and her family (Arellia, Danny, Lincoln and Piper Williams).

This January, Piper was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma. This difficult cancer lies at the base of her spine, and she is in a dire situation.  Please read her story, and pray how you can help!

Piper is just 5 years old. Underneath her wavy golden brown hair and beautiful smile is an intuitive, sensitive little girl.  She is bashful and shy, yet loves to sing!

She has struggled with mobility all of her 5 years.  Being born with a club foot has altered her gait since she started walking.  She has been using a brace for several years while undergoing physical therapy.  Yet, her mobility has been deteriorating so that at 5 years old, she has the mobility of a 2 year old.  With such a drastic difference, her parents decided that an MRI was necessary to give a full picture of what Piper might need to move forward.

Nothing could have prepared the Williams family for this! The MRI showed that Piper has a tumor at the base of her spine (sacrum).  After multiple biopsies she has been diagnosed with Undifferentiated Spindle-celled Sarcoma, High Grade.  This is a fast growing, difficult tumor to remove! Though it has resisted classification, the doctors have determined that it is a rare pediatric soft-tissue cancer.

The doctors are doing everything they can to shrink the tumor before they attempt to surgically remove it. This process started with Chemo this Wednesday (1/31/18), as the doctors attempt to get Piper into an experimental clinical trial.  After Chemo she will undergo 6 weeks of radiation treatments, then surgery.  The surgery will be complicated—when the doctors remove the tumor, they are expected to also do reconstructive surgery on Piper’s sacrum and spine .

WE ARE ASKING FOR HELP.  Whether it’s prayer, reaching out, or helping offset the costs associated with this diagnosis, we are thankful for any and all of the support the Williams family will receive.

This is just the beginning of a long road for Piper and her family.  The positioning of Piper’s tumor makes traditional methods of treatment unlikely.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1) PRAY lift up Piper and her family

2) GIVE whatever you can--no donation is too small

3) SHARE on social media, Facebook, #savingpiper

4) EMAIL this page (gofundme.com/savingpiperwilliams) to family + friends

We are asking for you to PRAY for healing, discernment, and pain management.

We are also asking you to GIVE financially.  We are asking you to step into the situation and help make it possible for Piper and her family to be concerned only with her health and getting better.

The average cost of treating pedatric cancer is $500,000.  The average out-of-pocket cost for parents is $35,000 for medical expenses, deductibles, prescriptions, as well as experimental treatments.

Finances are a major concern for parents of children diagnosed with cancer.  With every appointment there is a cost.  With every procedure there is a cost. With every trip to the hospital, every medication, every treatment, there is a cost that no one could prepare for.

Any donation will go to offset the Out-of-Pocket costs for Piper’s treatment in 2018.  This includes medical expenses, medications, travel to and from Arkansas Children’s Hospital, temporary leave from work for her parents, and experimental treatments for her cancer.

Currently, sleep is rare for Piper, because pain in her legs prevents her from resting.  She is nervous about repositioning, about being moved or undergoing tests, because everything is painful and uncomfortable.  She is just 5 years old!

Please become a part of Piper's story! SHARE this page and spread the word.  GIVE if you are able.  No donation is too small, because we know that God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.

Thank you for all you choose to do for Piper and her family!
