Saving Libby

On August 23rd, this dog was brought to the Animal Protection League, Inc. in Anderson, Indiana.  One look at her and you know her life up to this point has most likely been hell. But when you get past her appearance - the missing fur over 80% of her body, her stretched out teats that appear to be full of tumors, her skeletal body that shows every single rib - you notice something seems to be wrong with all of her legs. They are bowed in such a way that the only explanation is that she was kept in a cage that was too small for her and she was never able to stand.

If all of the above isn't enough to make your blood boil in anger, the fact that she is the sweetest, calmest, most loving dog in spite of how she has been treated, just infuriates us.  And it should infuriate you, too.

This precious dog has been used for breeding her entire life.  How many times we'll never know - but we can guarantee it's been a lot.  Her puppies are then sold to unsuspecting people who give no thought to the mother dog.  This happens all the time right here in our city - people selling puppies as a way to make a living.  It simply has to stop.

What we need to do right now is get this sweet girl the medical care she so desperately needs. She has so many issues...but her wagging tail and desire to kiss every human she sees - tells us we owe it to her to fight.  She will need xrays of her legs and mammary glands, and once she is strong enough to handle surgery, she will most likely need it at some point. We don't know what her long term prognosis is - but how we could turn our backs on her and not give her a chance at a better life is not an option.
