Saving Frida the rescue puppy from Guatemala

We are raising funds to pay for a hip replacement surgery for our rescue puppy from Guatemala. Her name is Frida.

We found Frida laying on the side of the road, bitten, barely breathing in a small town in Guatemala. the help of many people along the way, she was able to travel over 3000 miles to start her new life in New York City. Unfortunately when she got here, we found out that her old injuries hadn't healed correctly. As a result she needs a total hip replacement surgery as soon as possible. On doctors orders, our beautiful loving puppy, not yet a year old, is not allowed to jump and play until these issues are taken care of.

The Vet is estimating it will cost $6000. This is where she needs your help. Any donation will bring us closer to the goal of allowing Frida enjoy her puppyhood fully.

Frida's Journey:
In the spring of 2017 my girlfriend Anya and I went on a volunteer trip to Guatemala to help local people with medical care. We worked with the group Global Healthworks foundations, an organization that routinely provides free healthcare for people living in the areas around Quiche, Guatemala.

Our first night there we were wandering around enjoying the beautiful colors of guatemalan Guipils, and smells of Tamales when a little boy ran up to our group and urged that we follow him. He led us to a heartbreaking scene, a puppy laying on the ground, barely wimpering.
We poured a little water into a bottle cap. We lifted the puppy so she could drink. With every sip of  water she seemed more and more alive. She barked in grattitude and started following us.

Seeing her pain, and her joy at the same time broke our hearts.  Unfortunately we had no choice but to keep walking away from her. The hotel's administration would not have let us bring her in.

That evening as we stood around after dinner discussing the days event and the work that was yet to come, an ATV rolled into the parking lot of our hotel. Atop sat a young woman holding a puppy. Our puppy.
The woman, Bea, worked nearby, and moonlighted doing animal rescue and first aid. Someone had seen us helping the puppy and informed her.  Bea showed her the wounds that she treated and explained that they were likely due to being  bitten by a another dog.   Something happened then,  our friend Kristen fell in love.

Kristen decided right then that Frida would be taken care of, and come live in New York one day. She became Frida's benefactor and gaurdian angel. She did her best to make sure that Frida would be in a good home.

Initially, Kristen was planning to welcome Frida  into her home, but unfortunately Kristen's dog had a bum back and could not handle the frantic energy of a puppy.

This is where we come in. Anya saw Kristen's facebook status, where she was trying to find a new home for Frida. We looked at each other and knew right away: she is OUR DOG.

And then she came to New York....Well not yet. There was still some adventures left before she gets here.

Its late August, as Kristen and I are discussing what time is best to fly her over, Hurricanes start brewing. The customs office in Houston, where she has to pass through is closed indefinetly. Frida's health certification expires (10 day limit). As things are starting to clear up in Texas, Mexico gets hit with an Earthquake, and Frida's Vet rushes off to help the animals there.

Finally, after the Earth settles down, at least for now, Frida gets her health check taken care of and she sets off for New York City!

Frida is great, she quickly learns that peeing inside is not good. She plays, loves to cuddle and lick everyones face, however we notice that she has a limp. We take her to  the Vet, only to discover that her hip joint has been damaged,  and now she needs to have a hip replacement. Not only is Frida in pain, but it will get worse unless we intervene. Without this surgery, Frida's prognosis does not look good.

Because she is a medium sized dog she is a great candidate for this surgery and is likely to have a 100% recovery in function, with an easy recovery.

With your help, Frida will be able to rush down the streets with a real New York attitude, and live a pain free life.
