Hi all. My name is Kayla and we are hoping to raise some funds to help with Brian's treatments and vet visits. He was diagnosed with Wet / Nuero FIP. Without this treatment he will absolutely die. Below I will explain what FIP is, first here is a little about the situation.
Our 13 month old ferrel rescue kitten, Brian, was just diagnosed a week ago with wet/nuero fip. We just lost our 19 year old cat to renal failure after a 2 year battle 3 months ago. We are still grieving and this new diagnoses hit us hard. His meds were started right away and he is improving incredibly. Brian was found behind a CVS super young and we adopted him from a shelter. He has a cute little mustache and 7 toes on each of his front paws. He has really taken to our 15 month old daughter. We envisioned them growing up together. We wanted to give him a loving, comfy shot at life after his rough start in this world. We are already over $1000 into this with vet bills and meds. We started treating just for wet fip and then he started showing some nuero signs and had to almost double his meds. So 1 vile is lasting basically 2 days. Any and all prayers and donations would be greatly appreciated to give this sweet, ferrel turn around rescue a shot at life and help our daughter save her friend. --- FIP is a mutated form of the feline coronavirus. It's is a horrible disease with 100% mortality rate that causes multiple organ failure, in addition to loss of appetite, lethargy, depression, and neurological damage. The illness progresses quickly so time is of the essence. With wet fip they have vasculitis so the fluid literally leaks out of their veins into their abdomen and/or chest.
Fortunately (although frustratingly), there is a treatment developed by Dr. Pederson called GS-441524 that cures FIP with a >90% success rate. Thousands of cats have been treated successfully and go on to live long, healthy lives.
The frustrating part is the drug is not FDA-approved yet, so it's only available through underground non-profits that import it from overseas. Treatment takes 84 days and has relatively few side effects. It also works quickly, so Brian should be feeling better within a couple weeks of treatment. He has to complete treatment to ensure the virus is fully eradicated. After just 2 injections his appetite has started coming back and now after 5 injections it is fully back and he is playing some again. He was literally on deaths door step last Monday night and the vet recommended euthanasia. A few hours after the call I found FIP warriors 5.0 and they found me an emergency dose a few hours away. I got home at midnight with it and gave him his first injection. Just hours before we thought it was the end. I am so grateful for FIP warriors, any prayers and donations.
GS-441524 is incredibly expensive-- the cost of the medicine alone will be $1,600-$3300.
We were at the lower end of this estimate, however, Brian started showing some Nuero symptoms and we had to substantially up his dose. He will have to have multiple blood tests run to check his levels which will require vet visits.
