Tropical Ocean Cleanup

A lot has happened in this last year, I hope most have been following on my YouTube Channel. I have gone from simple fabric bottle booms to catch trash to a new long last design using old tires and plastic bottles. Currently there are six canal trash Kabooms at work 24/7.

November 2021 I pushed through my single stream recycling and got permission with a city council meeting. So I designed and built a new style recycle cage, installed and had good signs made. The staffed it with two local girls who handed out 100's of flyers and educated the residents on how to segregate. Took nearly five months but it is working very well now, but used up so much money doing so.

To keep the cage attendants employed we added beach cleanups in the mornings to our work load, we currently have three girls and is now the major expense. They also help sort and bag the Kaboom clean-outs, along with keeping the recycle cage tidy and educating the residents.

Lastest project is single stream recycling trash cans for parks and other public areas. What a difference they make, turns out most people will use a trash can if available, there were just never any before. Although my new design is cheap and effective like the Kabooms they are not free and I could some extra help with so many projects going now.

So yes maybe I bit off more than I can chew, but I believe it will take a combination of all of these projects to make the impact large enough to initiate change.

I will leave my original intro for you to read next, a huge thanks for all of those who have supported my efforts. I would like to take this mission to other islands but funding has dried up in the last six months now #Team Seas drive is over and I am feeling very alone in my  mission.

My name is Richard I am a retired business professional from Olympia, Washington USA, and have been a full time resident of Camiguin Island Philippines since early 2007. I have found a way that keeps most all plastics, trash and even diapers from getting into our oceans.

After researching how other countries handle their solid waste management issues I decided river trash booms are the answer. Many countries are using them in one form or another from tiny bottle filled tubes to massive containment booms with catch basins costing millions of peso. I took what others have done and improved on the design.

I have constructed, installed and improved the design of my budget bottle booms here on Camiguin Island. The amount of plastics and trash they can stop is overwhelming and I could really could use some help. Need to hire personnel, also need funds to build my heavy duty dream booms that can withstand the largest of rainfalls and river flow plus last for decades. Until education can change poor waste management habits turning off the flow of plastics and trash into our oceans I believe is our best and most effective option.
