Sometimes those who never request help need it more than others, and such is the case with Gene Permenter. He has been a dependable and reliable part of the east Texas community where he lives for many years. Gene retired only two years ago with numerous health issues, including diabetes and macular degeneration, his eyesight reduced to where doing his job wasn't possible any longer.
Gene is now facing the toughest challenge of his life this fall, overcoming a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma, an aggressive cancer that depends on equally aggressive chemo and radiation treatment. While he has enough to live on, Gene hasn't enough income to provide for the daily demands of maintaining his health care treatment at this point in his life. Gene is only 64, just months away from qualifying for Medicare in June 2018, and we're seeking support for him during this period of sustained aggressive cancer treatment.
Though Gene had to retire from the city of Nacogdoches after many years of employment, he wasn't able to wait until he was old enough to qualify for Medicare and his health expenses now far outweigh any resources he has, but we've calculated what he needs down to the penny to sustain his care and our goal is to raise $8795.00 to help Gene in his effort to beat his cancer. Gene's doctors are giving him a good chance to recover if he continues with his daily treatments, but he now worries over the expenses for his care more than anything else.
As his family, we are asking for the smallest support anyone can offer, whether it is ten, twenty or fifty dollars to help us reach this goal.
